On November 4, 2024, Dr. Wang and the Total Swiss team traveled south to Taichung to announce their sponsorship of the Fengyuan Junior High Ultimate Frisbee Team, extending their support to talented former members of the Fuchun Elementary Frisbee Team who have since graduated.
For the past four years, Total Swiss has sponsored the Fuchun Elementary Ultimate Frisbee Team, transforming what was once considered an underdog into a dominant force in elementary school frisbee competitions. The Fuchun team has gained a reputation for excellence, winning numerous gold and silver medals, and has even become a team that other schools actively avoid competing against. Some schools have even omitted inviting Fuchun to compete or scheduled events to prevent Fuchun from participating in major tournaments simultaneously.
Over time, as the young players grew taller and advanced in skill, the talented athletes who benefitted from Total Swiss’s sponsorship at Fuchun Elementary have moved up to junior high, forming the Fengyuan Junior High Ultimate Frisbee Team—another frisbee powerhouse in Taiwan in their age category.
The sponsorship event for the Fengyuan Junior High team was held at 1:30 p.m., drawing significant attention from the sports and education communities in Taichung. Attending the event were Taichung City’s Director of Education, Chiang Wei-min; Acting Director of the Taichung Sports Bureau, Yu Zhi-xiang; and Taichung City Councilor, Qiu Ai-shan.
Councilor Qiu, daughter of Total Swiss’s Pearl Director, has strong ties with Dr. Wang and Total Swiss, actively coordinating and hosting the event. She said, “Dr. Wang and Total Swiss have given our frisbee team members the strength and resources to grow healthier and stronger. We hope that with this sponsorship, the kids will continue to excel. And in the future, when they have the ability, we hope they will also give back and help others.”
Dr. Wang shared, “Our company has been sponsoring athletes for over 15 years. During my time in Europe, part of my work involved studying sports and nutrition. Performance in sports isn’t just about money—two key factors often overlooked are sports injuries and the longevity of an athlete’s peak period. Both aspects are closely related to nutrition. In Asia, we mostly grow up on grains, while people in Europe and America consume more meat, which makes their bodies more resilient. Because of this difference, when our top athletes compete abroad, they often fall short. Grain-based diets also make us more prone to sports injuries.
“To me, sponsorship is about more than financial support. If an organization is only interested in money and not other aspects, I’m not interested—they should go to the big corporations that join me each year in winning the Push Hands Awards. I’m more focused on the children’s nutrition and health, as that’s my area of expertise. I know that’s the foundation for excelling in competitions and achieving victory. I watched a recent interview with Taichung Mayor Lu and learned a lot about Taichung’s potential. I believe the future here is bright.”
Taichung’s Director of Education, Chiang Wei-min, expressed his gratitude: “We’ll go the distance for companies that support our athletes. Ba Ma’s sponsorship of the Fuchun Elementary and Fengyuan Junior High frisbee teams is a forward-thinking decision. We hope Fengyuan’s team will continue to perform well with this new support.”
In his speech, Acting Director of the Sports Bureau, Yu Zhi-xiang, announced that the Taichung City Ultimate Frisbee Team, led by Coach Lin Jia-feng from Fuchun Elementary and Fengyuan Junior High, recently won a gold medal at the National Sports Games. “With breakdancing now an official event at the Asian Games and Olympics, we hope that the increasingly popular sport of frisbee will be included in future Olympic Games. Everyone should work hard to shine on the international stage.”
Recognizing Coach Lin’s significant contributions to the success of the Fuchun Elementary and Fengyuan Junior High teams, Dr. Wang concluded the sponsorship event by signing an agreement to sponsor Coach Lin, enabling him to further elevate his teams and help the students reach new heights.
